DRY NEEDLING

When pain is experienced, it is often due to a tight, shortened and poorly vascularised muscle or muscle group which is tender to touch.

Through the use of dry needling, blood supply is restored and the nerve and stretch receptors are stimulated, aiding a release in the trigger point and encouraging the healing process.

Dry needling has been effectively used for the treatment of:

        ·         Back pain

        ·         Headaches & migraines

        ·         Sports injuries and other joint injuries

HOME VISITS

NCA Physiotherapy offers exclusive one on one home visits for our clients who are unable to visit the practice.

The most common conditions we treat when doing home visits:

*    Orthopaedic – those who have undergone surgery and require rehabilitation

*    Neurological Rehabilitation – after a stroke

*    Paediatric conditions

MANUAL THERAPY
 AND MASSAGE

Physiotherapists have extensive medical and anatomical knowledge of massage and other manual techniques.

Manual Therapy and Massages can be used to:

Restore muscle length

Reduce friction between structures

Decrease joint stiffness and improve joint mobility

Improve neural mobility

Relieve pain and muscle spasm

Joint Mobilizations

Joint stiffness contributes to pain, reduced movement and dysfunction. By using specific joint mobilization techniques, normal movement can be restored.

Joints can become stiff for a number of reasons:

After a fracture especially after immobilization from a cast/splint

Post-operative stiffness

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis

Post trauma

Poor posture

Following a sporting injury or overuse injury

Spinal dysfunction such as lower back or neck pain

NEUROLOGICAL REHABILITATION

NCA Physiotherapy has a highly skilled team who focuses on rehabilitation aimed at restoring function and independence after a neurological event, such as a stroke.

Neurological impairment and disability can result from:

        ·         Trauma - brain or spinal cord injuries

        ·         Degenerative diseases - Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease and muscular dystrophy

        ·         Stroke/CVA

There is increasing evidence that, even though some neurological diseases may be considered degenerative, rehabilitative exercises can improve function. Physiotherapy can improve quality of life and independence, as well as address health and fitness.

PRE AND POST NATAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
&
 WOMANS HEALTH

Back or pelvic pain can develop during and after pregnancy because certain hormonal levels are high, which causes ligaments and muscles become lax. This can then affect the joints of the pelvis causing back pain and possibly incontinence.

Specific exercises are designed to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor as to tighten, therefore preventing incontinence as well as prolapse.

NEONATAL/INFANT MASSAGE

9 months of your baby’s life was spent in a flexed, curled up position. During the birthing process and after birth babies are forced into a straight posture. This is a big adjustment for your baby’s body and research shows that this causes pain and discomfort, babies then cry as a result of this.

Neonatal massage is aimed at relieving your baby’s pain by mobilizing tight skin, tissue and joints. Massage also has many respiratory and digestive benefits.

Benefits of neonatal massage:

      ·         Improves functioning of the digestive system

      ·         Promotes relaxation, reducing crying

      ·         Helps to normalize muscle tone

      ·         Improves circulation

      ·         Enhances immune system function

      ·         Helps to improve sensory and body awareness

      ·         Enhances neurological development

      ·         Helps baby/child to sleep deeper and more soundly

      ·         Helps to increase oxygen and nutrient flow to cells

      ·         Improves respiration

      ·         Helps to improve pain management;

                can relieve discomfort from teething,

      ·         Helps with congestion, gas, and colic

      ·         Enhances release of hormones in the body

      ·         Reduces levels of Cortisol, the stress hormone

SPORTS MASSAGE

Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not only to athletes but to anyone wishing to prevent or recover from a soft tissue injury.

Benefits of Sports Massage:

Sports Massage is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Received regularly this may help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse. A constant build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.

These muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause the athlete discomfort or impede performance. Our therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues and by using the correct techniques, help the athlete maintain a much healthier physical state.

Techniques used in sports massage have been shown that they may give the following benefits:

Improve circulation and lymphatic flow

Assist in the removal of metabolic waste

Stimulation of nerve endings

Normalize muscle tone

Improve muscle length

Remodel scar tissue when required
